Western Highlands – with a high concentration of indigenous people, there is much tradition to appreciate and archaeological sites to explore. It is located on the outskirts of Guatemala City and on the border with Mexico. There are 30 Volcanoes which are prone to eruptions.

Lake Atitlan   – the highlands of Guatemala, with volcanoes, it is described as one of the most exotic locations in the world. There are villages around the lakes and it is a popular destination for tourists. Many hotels are advertised for holiday makers to stay here.

Escuintla – one of the largest cities in Guatemala and located between two main coastal roads from the capital.  It is a warm seaside city with much going on in terms of industry, commerce and agriculture. There is not much advertised to tourists to visit except the large market.

Guatemala City – as the capital of Guatemala, the capital is a popular place to visit. There is much praise for its architecture although the urban streets are described as dim and uneventful as well as warning tourists of the high levels of street crime. Museums present the culture and history of the Maya people and music gigs are held here. In the tourist designated Zona Viva, hotels, restaurants and boutiques can be found.

Antigua Guatemala – popular for students staying for Spanish schools, Antigua is a well presented Spanish city. It is a favourite for tourists because of its natural beauty and historical sites. Visitors enjoy the architecture, parks and ruins as well as being able to purchase handmade products that honour the artistic creativity of the natives.
