Religion In Guatemala
Guatemalan constitution allows freedom of Religion, beliefs and freedom of expression and to practice religion. In support of this, the 1995 Agreement on the Identity and Rights of Indigenous Peoples was approved to provide freedom of practice and promote respect for the forms of spirituality practiced by the Maya, Garifuna, and Xinca groups. Although this has not been openly enforced, the Guatemalan people do have many rituals and ceremonies that they practice.
Historically the country is mainly Roman Catholic and the majority of people are deeply religious. Statistically of the 14 million people, about 40% are Roman Catholic. In Guatemala City, there is an Archbishop. [Read more...]
Guatemalan Art
There are many tour and trips dedicated to enjoying the art and culture of Guatemala. The towns are rich in culture and much to be explored. Tours focus greatly on the historical and multicultural natives. The patterns, textiles and colours of each artwork reflect the community and are representative of ancient Mayan creativity and culture.
Much of the handicrafts are unique to the people of Guatemala. For example; basket weaving, sewing, carving, pottery, candle making and textile weaving. Guatemala has a great deal of handicrafts.
